Two years ago I decided to make a lifestyle change at the strong urging of my physician. I wanted to give an update on how I was doing and hope this will inspire others to make a healthy lifestyle change.
The most important thing when making a lifestyle change is to have a strong reason or “why” for making the change. For me, it was to be a healthy and positive influence for me and my family. Two years later those reasons still hold true today. On days when you may not want to workout or eat healthy having a strong “why” will motivate you to push forward. So, I would recommend spending some time and reflecting on your reasons for making a lifestyle change.
The next most important thing when making a lifestyle change is to have the right tools. For me, I have found that Beachbody’s formula for success which is nutrition, fitness, and support works best for me. My approach to nutrition has been to eat healthy whole foods 6-7 times per day and to include Shakeology as part of that regiment. My fitness approach has been to do programs that were appropriate for my current fitness level at the time while continuing to challenge myself going forward. I started by walking 3-4 miles per day, then I progressed to Power90, then I moved on to P90X, and currently I’m doing a P90X/Insanity hybrid. My support has come from Beachbody’s great support system of coaches and others who are making lifestyle changes. Now, I host challenge groups whereby I offer support and hold others accountable. I’m only able to do that if I continue to hold myself accountable.
I recently had my annual physical and my results since starting my lifestyle change are as follows: 100lbs lost, blood pressure dropped from 160/110 to 115/75, cholesterol dropped 49 pts, triglycerides dropped 149 pts. This lifestyle change has definitely been worth it for me. I’m in the best shape ever and feel better both mentally and physically than I ever have.
